Our Manifesto
Most fabrics begin with synthetic processes or resource-heavy crops.
Rose fabric begins with something far more poetic — the petals of roses, transformed through innovative biotechnology into a silky, breathable, and sustainable textile.
Naturally rich in vitamins and gentle on sensitive skin, rose fibre delivers a petal-soft drape that blends the delicacy of silk with the breathability of natural cotton.
It grows more supple with every wash, making it one of the most luxurious and eco-conscious fabric choices for conscious fashion.

Knowledge primer
What is Rose Fabric?
Rose fabric is made from cellulose extracted from rose petals and stems — floral waste from the perfume and flower industries that would otherwise end up in landfill. It takes approximately 1 kg of rose petals to produce enough fibre for a single garment. The result is a silky, breathable textile that rivals fine cotton and silk in feel — without the environmental cost.
Rose petals naturally contain Vitamins C and E. These nourishing properties are retained in the fibre, making rose fabric inherently hypoallergenic and gentle on sensitive skin. It is moisture-wicking, temperature-regulating, and becomes softer with every wash — no synthetic softeners needed.
Producing rose fabric uses significantly less water than conventional cotton and requires no additional agricultural land — it repurposes existing floral by-products. It is fully biodegradable, free from microplastics, and processed without harsh chemicals. Its carbon footprint is a fraction of synthetic alternatives like polyester or nylon.
Rose fabric drapes like silk, breathes like cotton, and lasts like a natural fibre should. It holds colour beautifully, resists pilling, and carries a subtle natural sheen. For conscious fashion that does not compromise on luxury — rose fabric is the answer.
At Moon N Lotus, rose fabric is more than a material — it is a philosophy. Every rose-fabric garment we craft is a commitment to wearing something that gives back: to your skin, to the artisans who make it, and to the planet that grows it. Soft enough for everyday wear. Conscious enough for a lifetime.

Process
From petal to garment
A four-step sustainable process. No synthetic shortcuts, no waste — pure floral innovation, crafted with intention.
Step 01
Rose harvest
Petals and stems are sourced from rose farms and the floral industry — repurposing what would otherwise become waste into the beginning of something beautiful.
Step 02
Cellulose extraction
The rose biomass undergoes a gentle extraction process to isolate natural cellulose from the petals and stems, preserving its skin-nourishing properties throughout.
Step 03
Spun into fibre
The extracted cellulose is spun into fine, silky rose fibres — lightweight, strong, and naturally soft — ready to be transformed into a premium textile.
Step 04
Woven cloth
Rose fibres are woven into a breathable, petal-soft fabric that drapes beautifully, grows more supple with every wash, and carries the gentle essence of the flower within every thread.
Why us
Why Moon n Lotus
We were among the early Indian labels to work with certified plant-based regenerated fibres, creating thoughtful pieces from materials derived from things like rose petals, orange peels, bamboo, hemp and more. We source thoughtfully, produce in small batches and increasingly make pieces only as demand requires. Even our fabric remnants are given a new purpose — reimagined as accessories, bags, childrenswear and more. For us, conscious fashion is not about making claims. It is about making better choices, consistently.
"The future of textiles isn't synthetic; it's circular. When you wear our rose and other bio-fiber pieces, you're wearing certified, low-impact innovation."
— — Pamita Seth, Founder, Moon n Lotus

Care
Care & longevity
Wash gentle
Hand wash or machine wash on a delicate cycle using cool water, turned inside out. Use a mild, pH-neutral liquid detergent to preserve the natural softness, skin-nourishing properties, and delicate rose fibre structure over years of wear.
Air dry
Lay flat or line-dry your rose fabric garments in the shade to retain their shape and fluid drape. Avoid tumble drying entirely — excessive heat can weaken the fine rose cellulose fibres and diminish their natural softness over time.
Iron with care
If needed, iron on a low to medium heat setting while the fabric is slightly damp. Use a pressing cloth between the iron and the garment to protect the delicate fibre surface and maintain its natural sheen and petal-soft texture.
Store mindfully
Fold and store your rose fabric pieces in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. For hanging, use padded or rounded hangers to preserve the natural drape and prevent stress on the fine, silky fibres.
Sustainability
Sustainability & certifications
Every piece in this collection is certified. We repurpose what nature gives us — and share every step of the journey.
Rose By-Products
Made from rose petals and stems left over by the flower and perfume industries. No new crop is grown just to make this fibre.
Soft & Gentle
Rose fabric feels soft, light, and breathable on the skin. Its gentle finish and naturally floral character make it comfortable for everyday wear.
Circular Sourcing
We give discarded floral material a second life instead of sending it to waste. This keeps rose fibre part of a more circular, low-waste system.

FAQ
Frequently asked
What is rose fabric actually made of?
Rose fabric is made from the natural cellulose extracted from rose petals and stems — by-products of the rose farming and perfume industries. This cellulose is processed into fine, silky fibres and spun into yarn. The result is a breathable, biodegradable, and petal-soft textile.
Which certifications does rose fabric carry, and what do they verify?
Premium rose fabric is certified under OEKO-TEX Standard 100, which verifies that every component of the finished textile — including dyes and finishing agents — is completely free from harmful substances and safe for direct skin contact. This certification ensures that our rose fabric meets the highest standards of safety, quality, and responsible processing throughout the supply chain.
How does rose fabric compare to cotton, silk, and conventional viscose?
Rose fabric uses approximately 85% less water than conventional cotton and produces a significantly lower carbon footprint than silk (~1.2 kg CO₂e/kg vs ~4.5 for silk). Unlike conventional viscose, rose fabric is derived from floral waste rather than virgin wood pulp, making it a far more circular and eco-conscious choice. It matches silk in softness and drape while offering superior breathability, hypoallergenic properties, and biodegradability.
Will rose fabric shrink, fade, or pill over time?
Rose fabric has minimal shrinkage when washed in cool water and air-dried flat. Its natural colour retention is strong, particularly in naturally dyed or undyed versions. Because rose fibres are fine and smooth, pilling is significantly lower than in cotton or synthetic blends. With proper gentle care, rose fabric garments maintain their softness, sheen, and structural integrity for years of regular wear.
Is rose fabric suitable for sensitive or reactive skin?
Yes — rose fabric is one of the most skin-friendly textiles available. It is naturally hypoallergenic, free from synthetic finishes in its natural form, and inherently rich in vitamins C and E from the rose petals. These properties make it exceptionally gentle on sensitive, reactive, or allergy-prone skin. Its breathability also prevents moisture build-up, reducing the risk of irritation during extended wear.
