I used to think I was really good at gifting my mom.
I'd go to big brands, pick out something that looked beautiful, something that felt "special enough." In my head, it was perfect. She'd open it, smile, and say she loved it. But after that… I never really saw her wear it.
At first, I ignored it. I thought maybe she was saving it for a special day. But most of those clothes just stayed in her cupboard. Worn once, or not at all.
Over time, I started noticing what she actually reached for every day. Soft clothes. Easy fits. Things that felt light on her skin. Outfits she didn't have to think about. That's when it clicked, I wasn't really gifting her, I was giving what I thought looked good.
Two years ago, I came across Moon N Lotus.
I picked something simple for her. A soft white bamboo kaftan. When I told her it was made from bamboo, she didn't believe me at first. She kept asking, "How can clothes be made out of bamboo?"
But the moment she touched it, she understood. It was light, breathable, and just easy.
She wore it the next day.
Then again that same week.
And again.
That one piece didn't go into the cupboard. It became a part of her routine.
Since then, it's turned into a small tradition. Every year, I gift her something from Moon N Lotus, sometimes bamboo, sometimes rose, sometimes something new. It's my way of introducing her to a new fabric each time.
Now she loves telling her friends about it, how it's made, how it feels. There's a little pride in her voice, like she's discovered something special.
And I love that. Because now, she's not just wearing what I gift her, she's enjoying it!
That's when I understood what a good gift really is.
It's not something that looks impressive. It's something they reach for, again and again. Now, when I gift her, I don't think about big brands. I just think about what feels like her...
